The Alpenhof Lodge presents a dated and inconsistent experience, with significant concerns regarding food quality, room upkeep, and operational issues. While praised for its location and some staff members, recent reviews overwhelmingly highlight problems with outdated facilities, poor food, and a lack of basic amenities.
We came for dinner especially for the fondue. It was like warmed plain queso. No flavor, the wrong consistency and color. So disappointed! They need to look up a classic French recipe and give it a go. The rest of the food was good though and the service was excellent.
About as modern as a pair of wooden skis. It’s old, it’s quirky, and the rooms have definitely seen better decades. But for ski-in/ski-out access and a decent fondue, it gets the job done. You’re paying for the 30-second walk to the Tram, not the interior design
One might believe you can’t mess up Bavarian cuisine. Wrong. Everything on the menu a culinary disaster. Nothing authentic or even a passable attempt following a recipe Seasoning either non existent or wildly overdone. Potato salad was hot roasted potatoes with bouillon seasonings “Jägerschnitzel” was a pre-breaded cutlet which smelled strongly, fried, with cold mushroom dollop dropped on top. “Spätzle” were KRAFT size noodles, red cabbage (I had to spit out) The cheese fondue looked and tasted like warmed up Cheese-Whizz, inedible. Burgers (out of tomatoes) patties seemed to be from Costco, overly greasy and unseasoned. Giant pretzel was fine but overly greasy. Chicken wings seemed to have been leftover from day before, refried. I came down with some overpowering stomach cramps the evening after having lunch here and spent the day after in the bathroom throwing up multiple times. Knowing that also their service was non existent they conveniently add 20% gratuity to their checks. Kitchen guy (I refuse to use the term “chef”) came out frustrated cause nobody would run food after dinging his bell 16-20times. Apparently old owner sold and now place is in free fall downhill. A shame as it’s a moneymaker location.
Staying at the Alpenhof Lodge felt like stepping back in time to a cozy Swiss mountain retreat. This charming and quiet hotel is a hidden gem in Teton Village — full of character and old-world charm that’s hard to find these days. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with beautiful alpine-style decor that makes you feel like you’re nestled in a European chalet. We especially loved the heated pool, the large spa area, and the relaxing sauna — perfect after a day of exploring the mountains. If you’re looking for something unique, peaceful, and full of character (instead of a generic chain hotel), the Alpenhof is a perfect choice. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Clean rooms, great staff, has a certain amount of charm but not quite 'old world craftsmanship updates', so it get a 3 rating as adequate. Needs updating. Location is 10/10 awesome. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Pros: bathroom was clean except the shower head needs to be serviced-too much calcium buildup - the water trickled. Bed, pillows, and linens clean and comfortable. Refrigerator. Cons: the booking advertisement said included breakfast- that was false advertising. That added another $70 to our daily budget for breakfast. Not even a single bottle of water in room to use the coffee maker. Carpets were filthy. Elevator was sooo slow we took the stairs instead with our luggage. thankfully we were on the 2nd floor. The furniture- the lampshades were so creepy. I mean, creepy. You need a facelift desperately.
This place is beautiful and the surroundings are also. Needs a little face-lift here and there. We had only one chair for the table and one chair for the balcony but we enjoyed our trip. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and spacious.
“It’s a no for me.” The Alpenhof Hotel feels like the kind of place you want to root for… until you actually set foot inside. It’s a shame such a structure exists in the Tetons with this little upkeep. From the outside, it whispers “rustic charm.” From the inside, it screams “I peaked during the Reagan administration.” Let’s start with the carpets. Oh, the carpets. They are truly horrific: threadbare, discolored, and carrying the type of mysterious patterns that make you question every step you take. Not even sure how these carpets haven’t been replaced. Add in the décor, which has 1982 calling and begging for its makeover back, and the place feels less “Alpen charm” and more “cautionary tale.” Charming? It probably was several decades ago. Now I found myself wondering if shower shoes should be part of the dress code. The bathrooms are outdated and depressing. The front desk often resembled a ghost town (ring bell for service, hope for the best). And the pièce de résistance: stains on the rug in my room that were still wet at 10 p.m. when I checked in. No leak from the ceiling, no spilled drink, just… unexplained dampness. Nothing says “sweet dreams” quite like mystery moisture. And then there’s the security system: real, old-school metal keys. Not the charming kind you get at a European boutique inn, but the clunky kind that makes you half-expect to also rewind a VHS tape before bed. The positives? The Alchemist soap products were actually lovely (a spa-quality surprise in an otherwise motel-quality room). The pillows were genuinely delightful. And yes, Cowboy Coffee just off the lobby is a saving grace (pun intended) - strong enough to make you forget, briefly, that you spent the night possibly with fungi on your feet. But pillows, soap, and caffeine can’t cover for everything else. Sadly, the Alpenhof is a relic of what might have once been a charming alpine lodge. Today, it’s more “alpine limbo,” caught between nostalgia and neglect. And for me, that means one visit was more than enough.
We came here several years ago and had amazing Swiss fondue. This time they charged us $59 for processed cheese dip and deep fried pretzels. DO NOT GET THE FAKE FONDUE. Bait and switch. The new owners are fraudsters and are hoodwinking unsuspecting customers.
Stopped by the Alpenhof for dinner tonight and loved the menu. We were so looking forward to the Bavarian dining experience, but unfortunately, we showed up during a Korean restaurant pop-up night, which is fine but not the cuisine we had our heart set on. Had a diet coke and left, but we'd definitely return when the normal menu is available. The decor is cozy, and the food options look lovely.
